事實上，伊拉克不但建立了運轉正常的民主制度，并成功舉行了多次大選，而且由于醫療水平的提高和全民福利的改善，人均壽命有明顯增長；雖不時有恐怖分子濫殺無辜，但因為民主制度的建立，庫爾德人也放棄了武力反抗，每年不再有成千上萬的政治異己分子被政府秘密警察和軍隊處死，現在每年非正常死亡的人數比薩達姆時期下降了95%以上！
為了說明民主給伊拉克帶來的混亂，每到伊拉克大選，中國官方媒體總是賣力宣傳伊拉克到處都是襲擊和恐怖，各路專家更解說由于恐怖分子威脅將破壞各地投票站，預測伊拉克的投票率將會不到30%，選舉結果無法反應真實的民意。事實是，每次伊拉克選舉都讓中國官方媒體和各路專家們大跌眼鏡——民眾踴躍投票，每次投票率都高達70%左右，這在民主國家中屬于非常高的投票率。這既說明伊拉克根本沒有中國官方媒體宣傳的那么混亂，同時又說明伊拉克民眾對自由民主的渴望遠比中國御用文人想像的強烈。
