The interviewer specifically mentioned the “Mass according to old rites” as a possible reason for success there. Gänswein did not directly address the old Mass. Instead, he said young people are “searching for answers” and finding “nourishment” in the Gospel and the Church’s message. He stressed that faith is not merely “something I have intellectually in my head.” What matters, he said, is a relationship with “the person who is essential to Christianity, namely Jesus Christ.”
