Today, Leo XIV was half an hour late for his audience with the Italian Winter Olympic and Paralympic committees because he was meeting with David Alexrod, Obama’s chief strategist. The meeting ran over time.
David Axelrod is a central architect behind the rise and governance of Barack Obama - a presidency deeply at odds with core Catholic and natural moral teaching.
As chief strategist, Axelrod helped gain broad public acceptance for evil positions.
These included support for abortion "rights" (e.g., abortion coverage structures in the Affordable Care Act and repeal of the Mexico City Policy), the contraception mandate requiring employer coverage, and the redefinition of marriage to include homosexual - seen in the refusal to defend the Defense of Marriage Act and its unraveling in United States v. Windsor.
These policies also led to conflicts over religious liberty, particularly through the contraception mandate applied to religious employers.

Born in Syria, Ignatius converted to Christianity and eventually became bishop of Antioch. In the year 107, Emperor Trajan visited Antioch and forced the Christians there to choose between death and apostasy. Ignatius would not deny Christ and thus was condemned to be put to death in Rome.
Ignatius is well known for the seven letters he wrote on the long journey from Antioch to Rome. Five of these letters are to Churches in Asia Minor; they urge the Christians there to remain faithful to God and to obey their superiors. He warns them against heretical doctrines, providing them with the solid truths of the Christian faith.
The sixth letter was to Polycarp, bishop of Smyrna, who was later martyred for the faith. The final letter begs the Christians in Rome not to try to stop his martyrdom. Leo XIV's New German Nuncio Is Typical Francis-era Diplomat
Today, Leo XIV has appointed Archbishop Hubertus van Megen as Apostolic Nuncio to Germany.
A Dutch prelate born in 1961, van Megen was ordained for Roermond in 1987 and entered the Vatican diplomatic service.
His career includes postings in Somalia, Brazil, Malawi, Sudan, and Eritrea.
In 2014, Pope Francis appointed him nuncio to Sudan. Cardinal Pietro Parolin consecrated him a bishop.
He later served as nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan, while also acting as the Holy See’s observer to the United Nations Environment Programme and UN-Habitat in Nairobi. After twelve years as nuncio in Africa, van Megen’s move to Germany may amount to a cultural shock.

Leo XIV Appoints French Bishop – Who Helped Turn Away Roman Rite Catholics
On 8 April, Pope Leo XIV appointed Monsignor Benoît Aubert, 53, as Bishop of Limoges, France.
A priest of the Archdiocese of Paris, he has served as pastor of the Dourdan–Bienheureuse-Marie-Poussepin pastoral sector in the Diocese of Évry-Corbeil-Essonnes since 2022, as well as serving as chaplain at Notre-Dame de l’Ouÿe, a retreat centre belonging to the Archdiocese of Paris.
He succeeds Bishop Pierre-Antoine Bozo, who was appointed coadjutor bishop of La Rochelle on 19 August 2025.

The Vatican has suspended the beatification process of Argentine Bishop Jorge Novak (1928–2001) in October 2025, the Diocese of Quilmes announced on April 4.
Vatican Cardinal Marcello Semeraro revoked the nihil obstat , the authorization to proceed the cause, opened in 2017.

The Vatican cited concerns about Novak’s handling of a priest under his authority.
The most substantiated case potentially linked to the Vatican’s decision involves Fr. Rubén Horacio Pardo of Quilmes, although the Vatican has not officially identified the priest in question. He was accused of abusing a 15-year-old boy in 2002.
According to reporting at the time, the victim’s mother stated that several priests had warned Bishop Novak prior to Pardo’s ordination, raising concerns about his suitability for the priesthood. Despite these warnings, Novak ordained the homosexual man.
